Free post 1: A great book

Hello! Through this post I would like to talk about a book I read sometime ago and I think it’s a really good story. This book is a novel called “The good earth” by Pearl Buck. Buck was the first American woman to win the Nobel Prize of Literature in 1938.

Well, I’m going to tell you about the things that I remember and I like from this novel. The good earth was published in 1931.

How does the story start? With the Wang Lung’s wedding day and it set in China before de first world war. I like this book because is an entertaining story easily to read. Also I like it too, because I think is very interesting the social transformation processes behind it, because we can see how the people’s live have been modified through the social structure’s transformation.  Wang Lung goes from being a farmer who dies in the same place where he was born, to live as a merchant traveling across China and becomes the richest man on his town. But not only changes his status and occupation, there also changes his way to understand the life and the things that he wishes. At the end of the book it is so clear, because when Wang Lung is dying he heard their children talking about to sell his land to make money, a complete modern idea that changes the traditional relation with earth he has until the last events.
